Location: Bingham, Nottingham
Project:
Velo were engaged by a local sports club following an incident that left one of their primary lighting columns inoperable. The column had been struck by a vehicle, rendering it unsafe and unusable. As a result, the club’s main junior pitch and training area experienced significant reductions in lux levels and lighting uniformity. This meant the club no longer met the necessary standards for safe use, particularly during evening training.
Key Outcomes:
– VELO Lighting
Safety and Urgency
The removed damaged column posed a safety risk, and the lack of compliant lighting rendered key facilities unusable during evening hours. This created time pressure to restore full lighting as quickly as possible to avoid further disruptions to the club’s training and match schedules.
Site limitations
The column replacement required careful organisation and liaising with the groundworks team in a very tight working area, with limited space and heavy foot traffic, safety and planning was crucial.
Lighting Design Compatibility
Ensuring the new installation improved the existing lighting and avoided any light spill outside the facility, especially as there is a train line running at the rear of the pitch and light pollution was a big concern for the club and one of the reasons, they opted to use PPG and our chosen lighting manufacturer.
Following the successful completion of the initial works and the clear performance benefits of the upgraded fittings, the club awarded VELO further improvements. This included:
New lighting fixtures were mounted to the rear of some of the existing columns to provide illumination for a third training area, further expanding the usable training space and enhancing the club’s overall facility offering.
